More Than Just a Souvenir…
Travel sketching gives me memories I can hold and skills I can use. Drawing in place sharpens observation and reveals new shapes and palettes that I can use in graphics later. Capturing the essence of a moment in less than 20 minutes improves my designing skills overall: tighter layouts, clearer storytelling, and better use of contrast and negative space.
Also, it’s a great icebreaker! I enjoy meeting people who stop to chat, and their stories make the drawings come alive that much more.
