Case Study: Making Learning Human

Student bored working on the computer

The Challenge

In longer practice sets and lessons, attention fades, and learners start losing momentum, clarity, and motivation. However, if they leave the lesson for a break, many do not return. They need a quick pause that keeps them in the flow.

Project: Window Doodle Widget

Year: 2025

Audience: Middle & high school students and higher online learning students

Role: Designer and developer

Tools: V0, VS Code

The Solution

People need breaks! I built a lightweight window doodle widget you can drop inside the lesson. It invites a short doodle, a quick sketch of an idea, or a try-it-here space for the next problem. Learners get a playful pause without leaving the module, so reflection and creativity happen in place.

Outcome

  • Window Doodle Pad widget built with the assistance of AI.

    • Keeps learners in the lesson and reduces drop-off during heavy practice

    • Encourages reflection and creative thinking, which supports retention and transfer

    • Increases enjoyment, which improves persistence with the goal

Next Steps

With continued development, I would…

  • Add CAPI to add prompts

  • Make it so snapshots can save to an assignment

  • Level up the graphics

Try It!

Give yourself a break and doodle for a few moments!
